21.1.1. If You Have Identified the Photograph You Want to Use

If you have seen the photograph in which you want rights, start with an examination of the publication or location where you saw it. If the photograph appears in a newspaper, magazine, or other periodical, note that many periodicals include materials that the publication does not own. If the publication possesses only limited rights to use a photograph, the publication probably does not have authorization to grant you a license to use that photograph in your production.
