6.1. What Is the Right of Privacy?

Broadly speaking, the right of privacy is a person’s right to be left alone. Privacy can mean constitutional protection from the government’s unreasonable search and seizure. It can also mean protection from the collection and control of personal information collected by mailing lists and credit bureaus. For rights clearance purposes, the right of privacy protects you from privacy invasions by other private individuals and organizations.
