Chapter Four: Get in the Trenches

My father wanted his boys to learn how to work. We used to tell people that Dad was the kind of guy who would have us dig a hole, just to have us fill it back in. We lived in a . . . . . 80 . . . . . modest neighborhood where animals such as horses, cows, and chickens were kept in the backyard. Because we had animals, there was always an array of chores my father could assign to my brother and me, to teach us his feared Work Lessons.
