1.1 Defining Energy
Energy is such a fundamental aspect of nature that it permeates all that we perceive. All that our eyes see is light energy either generated by a source or reflected. Sound is the result of atoms set in motion by energy. Even all of the physical objects that surround us can be considered to be energy manifested as mass or matter. Energy can exist either in flux or manifested in its interactions with matter. We most commonly observe energy in flux as electromagnetic radiation (e.g., light and heat).
