7. Enjoy Media

Within an amazingly short amount of time, the bulk of our personal media has gone digital. Although plenty of people still shoot film and buy albums on vinyl, I would guess that most of us now capture images with digital cameras and buy music online or on CDs (which are then converted to digital files).

Apple has long been a champion of digital media—the iTunes Store is arguably saving the music business—so it’s no surprise that OS X handles these media requirements. A large reason for that is QuickTime X, the core technology that handles video and audio in OS X. This chapter covers importing digital media into your Mac, as well as using QuickTime Player as a built-in, catch-all solution to view and share it.
