14. Objects and Client/Server Applications

Chapter 13, “Objects in Web Services, Mobile Apps, and Hybrids,” covered the concept of distributed objects as they relate to web services. In that chapter, the Internet was the primary highway that the objects navigated. In this chapter, we narrow the scope a bit and explore the topic of sending objects across a client/server network.

Many of the concepts in this chapter tie in well to those of Chapter 13 (because they both involve moving data over a network). I find it very helpful to delve directly into the inner workings of the client/server model, if only for the educational experience of developing a working implementation.
