6. Google Maps Navigation

The advent of Google Maps Navigation means never having to use paper maps again. For many people, this fact alone could justify buying a phone like the Nexus One. Even if you don’t need navigation, this powerful app has so many features that I’ll bet that it ends up on your home screen.

Google Maps Navigation (herein just Google Maps or just Maps) is a major upgrade of an already-amazing app. The old version simply displayed your location and gave directions. The new version preinstalled on the Nexus One (Figure 6.1 on the next page) adds free, turn-by-turn, voice-guided navigation—a major upgrade that costs extra on the iPhone.
