There is no way to implement continuous quality (enabled by the continuous regression test suite) without automation. It is simply too expensive to have someone manually rerun regression tests by hand every day—just as it is not feasible to constantly repeat manual inspections and tests along the production line.
Automation is achieved through an integrated infrastructure. ADP Principle 1—Establish an infrastructure that integrates people and technology—sets the baseline that allows us to have an infrastructure. This infrastructure needs to be automated, which leads to ADP Principle 5: Automate repetitive tasks.
