Music publishing is an industry that is constantly evolving. From the origins of Tin Pan Alley in the late 1800s through the conglomerate craze that exploded in the 1980s and continues to the present day, music publishing has gone through numerous changes for a variety of reasons.
It is conceivable that one could become involved with music publishing today and learn all of the technicalities of the business without knowing or being concerned about its history.
