How Scientists Get Started

The three chapters here introduce you to some stories of how scientists, mathematicians, and engineers actually got started (usually, by breaking something) and how they work every day.

Chapter 12 focuses on the early signs that someone is headed for a science career, usually indicated by breaking something and (sort of) fixing it. Chapter 13 focuses on how scientists think about the world. Chapter 14 ties things up with some pragmatic views about what it is like to work in these fields day to day.
