I don’t exactly remember why I had time on my hands in Waunakee, Wisconsin, or what I ordered at the independent coffee shop there. All I remember is that I was consulting with a company in Madison and the CIO had his particular brand of challenges. That little coffee shop on East Main is where I decided to write a book on how enterprise IT organizations needed to change in order to survive, and that CIO, who will remain anonymous, is the first of many people to whom I owe a debt for the writing of this book.
