By now, you’ve learned that social media is about the written word—for the most part. While a large percentage of the online community would rather read from a web page or whip out a book, there is an abundance of auditory and visual learners. Increasingly, video is starting to take a stronghold in our online society, and photographs always tell a great story. These alternative media tactics are rather successful, though not many individuals seem to dabble in the arts of video, photography, and podcasting.

Social media empowers amateur photographers and turns them into content creators. With tagging capabilities, commenting, embedding, and more, image-sharing sites are blossoming as social communities. Photography sites are also great implements for social media marketing, as they can help build awareness of your products. Evangelizing on these community sites can really add value to your business and marketing goals. Put simply, there are myriad opportunities to be gained by understanding these social media sites, the communities, and the features therein.

On the video and podcasting front, new media has enabled everyone to become a producer or director and even to have their 15 minutes of fame (and then some).
