Important Questions That Determine Effectiveness

So to be a player, you need to evaluate, interpret, translate, and project (more on projection later).

A good translator is like a good surgeon—excising unwelcome elements with a steady hand and executing every move with precision and economy.

Translation enables the metamorphosis from information to knowledge. To translate effectively, you have to ask questions:

  • What does this really mean?

  • Why is this important?

  • What should I really be saying here?

  • What is the point?

  • Does this add anything?

  • Am I speaking in a language everyone can understand?

  • Am I using examples that fit?

  • Who really cares?

If you can’t answer these questions, you are doing yourself and your audience a disservice.
