Chapter 6. The Secret of Becoming a Great Leader

I told you the secret of being a Great Leader in Chapter 1. Let me repeat it here.

To be a Great Leader, you have to be successful at achieving change—important, consequential change in the results for which you are responsible. Making change successfully is a leader’s greatest challenge.

In this chapter, I want to share with you the secret of becoming a Great Leader. The secret is that there are five qualities Great Leaders share and that you can, to a degree, develop within yourself.

As shown on the top of the Leadership Pyramid, they are:

  • Being innovative

  • Being an intelligent risk taker

  • Having an appetite for top talent

  • Developing the “helicopter view”

  • Exhibiting the “sparkle factor”
