Summary

Obtaining support for your new OS can seem to be a daunting task. Fortunately, most OSs sport a variety of support mechanisms, ranging from formal support from the publisher to informal support on newsgroups and mailing lists, and from local user groups. You face two contradictory challenges in obtaining support, especially support from informal channels: First, you must locate appropriate support venues; and second, you must separate the good suggestions from the bad. Fortunately, a bit of common sense, caution, and watching for corrections to bad advice can go a long way in identifying the support that's worthy of attention.
