Summary

Every OS has unique needs when it comes to installation—OSs vary on whether they can install to logical partitions, the exact nature of how the 1024-cylinder limit applies, the partition types and filesystems they support, and whether and how you can add drivers to their installation routines. There are often subtleties to these installation variables that can cause grief if you attempt an OS installation without proper preparation. This chapter has therefore presented information relevant to installing several common OSs, with the aim of reducing these problems to manageable proportions.
