Repartitioning an existing hard disk setup is one of the most tedious and dangerous operations that's commonly required in creating and maintaining a multi-OS configuration. This chapter provides an overview of three methods for performing this task:

  • Converting a partition from use by one OS to use by another

  • Backing up data, repartitioning, and restoring data

  • Using a dynamic partition resizer—PartitionMagic, in particular

Whatever method you use, repartitioning a hard disk has consequences on drive letter assignment in Microsoft-style OSs, and on device identifiers for hard disk partitions in UNIX OSs.
