Windows NT and Windows 2000

Microsoft's Windows NT line began with Windows NT 3.1, which was really a 1.0-level release. As I write this, the current version is 4.0. Microsoft has announced that its next version of Windows NT will not be called Windows NT 4.1 or 5.0, but Windows 2000. This version is now in late beta testing, so it should be available by the time you read these words. Throughout this book, I use Windows NT to refer to both Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000. In most cases, my comments apply to earlier versions of Windows NT, as well.

When Windows NT and Windows 2000 behave differently in relation to multi-OS computers, I've noted this.
