Exposure Explained

Exposure refers to the amount of light that is allowed to hit the recording medium, usually either a digital sensor or film. What is the correct amount of light that should be allowed to hit the sensor or film? As much or as little as the photographer wants. There are ways to mathematically calculate this, a fact that automatic settings on cameras take full advantage of. A photographer who doesn’t bypass these settings and experiment, however, is giving up a huge amount of creative control.
