Camera Phones

As much as DSLRs have changed professional and serious amateur photography, their impact was nothing like that of the camera phone. The camera phone changed everything because this was the development that meant people left the house with a camera whether they intended to or not.

The first camera phone, the Sharp J-SH04, was released in 2000 and cost $500. It took only three years for sales of this phone model to outpace sales of all stand-alone digital cameras combined, proving there was a demand for them. The majority of cell phones didn’t come equipped with cameras until 2006.
