There are many reasons you may choose to begin and maintain some form of mindfulness training. You may want to have better business acumen, to increase your emotional intelligence, to be more innovative, to have greater leadership presence, or simply to be happier. Most likely, you'd like to have a combination of all of those things. It's also quite possible that you've made a connection between what you'd most like to achieve, or becoming the ideal version of yourself, and how mindfulness can help you get there.

As we discussed in Chapter 7, the most important thing you can do to realize whatever benefits you'd like to realize as a result of mindfulness training is to let go of any goals while you're practicing and living your daily life (practice and daily life are synonymous when you practice well). However, it can be very helpful, especially when you're first starting to practice, to take a moment every day to remind yourself why you're engaging in mindfulness training. When you're reminded of how mindfulness training can help you achieve what is most important to you, you're more likely to put appropriate effort into the practice that day.
