ASKING THE CLIENT TO GENERATE COURSES OF ACTION

As Investigator, the coach asks the client directly for ideas on courses of action or behaviors that could bring the desired outcome into being. It is important to understand, however, that the Investigator does not advocate action; he is detached. Any impetus toward action must come from the client. The Investigator is there only to support the discovery of the client’s ideas about how to move forward. (Insofar as the coach does suggest ideas or provide an impetus toward action, he does so in the Voice of Guide, discussed in Chapter Nine.)
