The Art and Science of Consulting Creatively

Whether or not you will ever do any formal consulting, you can learn to think like the best consultants. The four suggestions that follow should broaden your thinking about problems and solutions.

1. Eliminate old answers. Dee Hock, the founder of VISA, said, “The problem is never how to get new ideas into your head. It’s how to get the old ones out.” Tolerable solutions and an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” attitude tend to prevent us from considering better solutions. Remember, good ideas are the enemy of great ideas.
