Keep it Simple

Let me take a moment to define the way I’m using the word simple. I am not referring to something simplistic or common or easy, but rather the shortest way to the best answer. A lot of consultants and managers end up, for whatever reason, taking the exact opposite route—the most complicated way to a workable answer. Workable isn’t good enough. People are expecting brilliant, remarkable, ingenious, and—you guessed it—simple.

The way you can tell you’ve hit the mark is when someone says something like, “I can’t believe the results from these few simple changes. This would never have occurred to me!” Bingo. Keep it simple. It is often the quickest and cheapest solution. And simple often gets the job done.
