Employee Retention and Development

In addition to recruiting a diverse workforce, there must be processes in place to retain and develop employees. The ability to retain the diverse work group once they have been recruited is a critical management competency. It helps avoid “human capital depletion” and “revolving-door impact.” Some organizations do a wonderful job setting up systems to recruit diverse employees, only to lose them 12 to 18 months later in voluntary turnover (human capital depletion). This often occurs because there is little thought given to retaining them once they are inside the organization. If this happens, they show up in the “revolving-door” statistics (poor survival rate).
