The Steps for a Structured Round

A structured round is very useful for reaching clarity about a topic and gaining participation from all team members.

1.  Defining a goal. The topic for the structured round is determined and clearly defined.

2.  Individual work. Each person silently contemplates and writes down his or her points about the issue under discussion.

3.  Canvassing. The scribe takes each person’s points, one at a time. He or she continues until all items are collected. Points should be kept brief and duplication avoided. Those who don’t have any more points may simply say, “Pass.”

4.  Clarifying. The points are reviewed one by one. The person who gave the point can give further information to help the others understand it.
