In an Informal Coaching Meeting
In an informal situation, you could say something like, “Let’s take a minute to talk about the DSI job. I want to get your take and debrief what happened. What’s your perspective on the project?”
Frame the Time for Talking
It can be very useful to create a set of communication agreements consciously and deliberately that support active listening.
Underlying all the agreements is the goal of promoting an atmosphere of mutual respect.
If you are the initiator, always start with a question like, “Can you talk?” or “Is this a good time for a question?”
