Positive Reinforcement and Motivation

Positive reinforcement does not only occur with a big bonus check at the end of the year. A good coach finds small ways to reinforce and motivate employees frequently and regularly.

There are many modes to reinforce and motivate someone beyond monetary compensation (although that is always appreciated).

A study by Watson Wyatt, a human resources consulting company, found that 76 percent of employees considered importance of work very significant for motivation. A good coach can help each employee see the importance of his or her work.

Wherever possible, involve subordinates in decision making as it relates to their work areas. Employees want to participate in decisions that involve them and their work.
