The Focus

There are numerous occasions when coaching can be initiated.

Any type of change within the work environment

Coaching can occur whenever a shift in the status quo occurs. This might include new hires, new standards, or a change in work responsibilities.

To reinforce positive performance

Coaching helps employees to identify which actions they should continue and build upon.

To deal with performance problems

This includes when a person doesn’t know how to do the job. For example, an employee fails to organize his workload effectively.

Performance problems also occur when a person doesn’t want to do the job. For example, an employee seems to hide behind his office door and only produces a fraction of his colleague’s output.
