Knowing When to Move On

An important part of the coaching process is knowing when to stop focusing on a developmental area and move on to something else. Ultimately, as the employee reaches a high level of competence, coaching can slow down or mostly phase out. The coaching relationship will change as the employee changes and as the coach changes. The coach needs to be aware of these changes and take responsibility for adjusting the relationship accordingly.
