Typically, the easiest and fastest way to gauge whether a particular action is ethical or not is to ask a question or a series of questions. For example, let’s say you are in the middle of writing out checks to pay some personal bills during the working day, and the following question occurred to you:

•  If the customer could see what I’m doing right now, would she be willing to pay for it?

You would probably catch yourself and put the checkbook away.
