White space is that blank area on a printed page. White space provides eye relief to the reader. Pick up most single-spaced legal documents, for example, and you’ll usually find very little white space—little eye relief. As a result, readers tend to avoid such documents. When was the last time you took out your life insurance policy or the deed to the house and read it for pleasure?
