REPEATED WORDS AND SYNONYMS

As a final method of transition in your paragraphs, try either repeating a word from one sentence to another or using a synonym. Both of these techniques keep the flow of the paragraph going.

To illustrate, read the following:

Our company’s president entered the room and sat down at the conference table to begin the meeting. We had called this meeting to discuss the purchase of several new products that would increase the efficiency of the office. Routinely, we scheduled all such conferences in the morning because the boss was happiest then.

Notice how the writer used meeting in the first sentence and then repeated it in the next to keep up the flow. But in sentence three, the writer substituted conference for meeting ...
