How to use the tool

STAGES is a tool that you can use in any situation where you are giving feedback – whether it’s having a timely word with a team member, in a more formal environment like a review (see Chapter 8) or as part of a learning event.

The first part of the STAGES model is getting the setting right, both physically and emotionally. If either of these is wrong, the person on the other end of it will not be able to take the feedback on board and may be very upset by it, however well intentioned you may be.
