  • Feedback is important – it enhances how we learn from experience.

  • Use the STAGES for feedback model in any situation where you need to give feedback – formally or informally.

  • Make sure you approach the task appropriately, taking account of the situation and the receiver’s state of mind.

  • Give feedback as soon as possible after the event, and after any emotional overload has passed.

  • Give the feedback in private.

  • Give the person your full attention and make sure you will not be disturbed.

  • Clearly identify the topic.

  • Focus on observable and specific actions.

  • Write down the action points as they arise and check that the receiver is committed to them.
