Sample coaching conversation

This example shows how the STORM model can be used to set a sound development objective during a performance review. Jan is a team leader whose manager is helping him to set and define a clear objective around his communication skills with his team:

Jan:

Hi. Have you got a few minutes? Can you help me think through how I can get my team communicating and working together more? Everyone is working on his or her own thing, and there’s no sense of the team as a unit.

Manager:

Of course. Can you be more specific about the result you’re after?

Jan:
