A mistake or a single bad experience can take on an importance out of all proportion to its original context. If you allow the pressure to build around the idea that you must avoid making the same or a similar mistake in the future you create a pressure around that situation, which makes it more likely that you will repeat it. Earlier in this chapter I used making a presentation as an example illustrating how to respond to failure. We can use that example again here.
