Preparing for delivery
Once you have edited your speech and are satisfied with the content, organization, style, language, and grammar, it's time to prepare the speech for delivery. Remember, now, that I'm referring to a speech that has been written out word for word.
Many important speeches are read, as I have pointed out, and if precision is essential for, let's say, legal or political reasons, reading may be necessary. In no case, however, is it wise to memorize a complete speech. Let me modify that. If you happen to be a trained actor accustomed to memorizing lines for plays, then it might be okay to memorize a speech. For most of us, though, memorizing is a very bad idea.
