Liable/likely
If you are liable, something unpleasant might result. For example, if you damage someone's property, you may be liable. Likely expresses simple probability with no unpleasant connotation. Liable should not be used as a synonym for likely, as in "I'm liable to see Robert tomorrow." Think of liable as being related to liability.
