Convince/persuade
These words are often used interchangeably, but the distinction between them is worth preserving. To convince someone is to bring the person to your point of view. To persuade someone is to induce the person to do something. For example, "Now that I have convinced you of the importance of a well-written speech, I hope I can persuade you to engage me as your speech writer."
