Chapter Two. Before You Speak

This chapter will cover some factors to be considered before you accept an invitation and some of the things you should do in preparation for writing your speech. First, let me quickly review some of the key points discussed so far.

  • An invitation to make a speech should be looked upon as an opportunity to serve your company, organization, or special cause.

  • Never doubt that you have within yourself the ability to make a good speech, but, you must develop that ability.

  • If the thought of speaking in public strikes fear in your heart, you are not alone. Even experienced speakers suffer from stage fright and lack of confidence.
