INTRODUCTION

The information in this section is designed to demystify some of the accounting jargon that can often cause non-financial managers confusion. It’s intended to provide you with enough information to understand what your accountant is talking about and to ask the right questions. Because I don’t expect you to actually apply the information in practice there is no ‘What to do’ section in any of the entries – except Question 76, which asks the question ‘How can I increase the organisation’s profits?’

This section has two specific aims:
