Why it’s important: To be an effective manager you have to understand and be able to work with the dominant organisational culture.

Organisational culture is ephemeral and difficult to define. Terrence Deal and Allan Kennedy defined it as ‘The way we do things around here’ and, by extension, ‘What we value around here’.
