HOW DO I KEEP THE PROJECT ON TIME AND WITHIN BUDGET?
Why it’s important: Your reputation depends not only on delivering the goods but doing so on time and to budget.
In Question 32 we saw that two primary responsibilities of any project manager were to deliver the project on time and under budget. To achieve this, a project manager needs to:
- Plan the project carefully with the help of their team (see Question 35), including the delivery dates for tasks and milestones.
- Regularly monitor actual performance against both the project plan and budget, and take corrective action when required (see tables below).
When defining the tasks, deadlines and milestones, it is helpful to use SMART targets:
