Why it’s important: Management is difficult. To succeed you must use all the tools at your disposal. Power and authority are two of your most effective tools – if used correctly.

Between them, Max Weber, Charles Handy and John French and Bertram Raven identified seven types of power/authority.

SEVEN SOURCES OF POWER:

Traditional authority is power that is bequeathed from one generation to another; although it is most obvious in rich/royal families it can also exist within elite groups.
