WHAT’S MY MANAGEMENT STYLE?

Why it’s important: Every manager has a default management style. You need to know what yours is so that you can consciously vary it when circumstances require a different approach.

Douglas McGregor, who revolutionised management thinking when he wrote The Human Side of Enterprise, identified two sets of beliefs that managers have about staff. As with all stereotypes, the two descriptions do not reflect the reality of most managers’ views, which usually reside somewhere in the middle.
