56.2. PRINT ON DEMAND

If you sell small quantities of information products, the print-on-demand model may make more sense than traditional printing and inventory storage.

These companies will print just a single copy of your product from a digital master, bind it according to your specification (perfect bound, spiral bound, etc.), and send it to your customers on demand.

It's certainly more expensive on a per-piece basis, but it's just so convenient that it may work better for you.

Another situation in which this would make sense is if your product is updated frequently—using print on demand, you will avoid having to recycle a pallet of unusable books when you come out with a new version.

Note that some of these companies will also duplicate CDs and DVDs for you in addition to printed material. Very cool.
