Chapter 55. Podcasting/Vidcasting

Imagine you have a weekly audio program that you record and upload to your web site as an MP3 file. You then send a little message to people on your e-mail list letting them know where they can go to download your latest broadcast.

Your subscribers go to the web page you have specified and download the MP3 file, then upload it into an iPod (or other MP3 player).

That's basically what podcasting is, but with one big difference. With podcasting, you don't need to do anything to inform your readers—they simply subscribe to an RSS feed, and their feed reader automatically downloads your audio broadcast as soon as you post it to your site. (If you don't know what RSS is, just skip ahead to the RSS section to get acquainted with it, then come back here.)

Look under "Audio" for tools to create your audio file.
