For several eBay categories, you can even advertise with a fixed-price 30-day classified advertisement for just $9.95 (as of this writing).
As per traditional direct response, a business should not attempt to sell something directly from the classified ad. Instead, the advertisement is used to generate leads (offer a free report, a 10-point checklist, etc.), which you can then follow up and sell to later.
According to eBay (as of July 2008), the categories and subcategories for which classified advertisements can be placed are as follows:
