That’s, in an odd way, what a director does: He turns people on.

Every project needs direction, though the task of directing is often taken on by a variety of people. On a feature film, the director is responsible for guiding every phase of the project’s artistic vision. On a television series, the responsibility for that vision usually resides with the top producer, or showrunner. Showrunners have the responsibility of creating the unified vision that will help make the show seem all of one piece, even over a full season of episodes.
